The Alpine Inn – A Timeless Mountaintop Escape
Perched high atop Grassy Mountain in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge, The Alpine Inn has been a beloved getaway since 1929. First opened by Dallas and Mary Holifield as a small gas station and souvenir shop, it has since evolved into a six-room cliffside retreat with some of the most breathtaking views in the region.
At 3,200 feet above sea level, every room comes with a private balcony overlooking Table Rock Mountain and Turkey Cove. On summer nights, the crisp mountain air makes for the perfect natural sleeping environment, though modern mini-split climate units are available for added comfort.
Located directly on the famous NC-226A “Diamondback” Highway, known for its 200 curves in just 12 miles, The Alpine Inn is a dream for motorcyclists, road trippers, and adventurers. It’s also less than a mile from Little Switzerland and just a few minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway (Milepost 334).

A Legacy of Hospitality
The Alpine Inn is proudly owned and operated by French Norsk Properties, an independent company dedicated to preserving the charm of traditional “mom & pop” lodging. Their mission is to keep the character and stories of small inns alive while blending in the right amount of modern comfort.
Alongside the inn, they also manage glamping sites and boat rentals, all designed to help guests reconnect with the outdoors. With thoughtful renovations planned during off-seasons, The Alpine Inn continues to evolve, while staying true to the welcoming spirit that has drawn travelers here for nearly a century.
